2027 Hamachi Micro Jigger SPJ - PE0.5-1.4 PE0.8-2 PE1.5-3
HamachiThe Hamachi Micro Jigger SPJ PE 1.5–3.0 is the heaviest and most powerful of the three Micro Jigger variants — rated for PE 1.5–3.0 (15–30lb) with jigs from 40–100g. Where the lighter PE 0.5–1.4 and PE 0.8–2.0 variants excel with micro slow pitch jigs and soft plastics, this model delivers the backbone to work heavier asymmetric slow-pitch jigs — the 60–100g flutter jigs, large octo-jigs, and heavy slow-fall lures that are most effective for mid-depth kingfish, snapper, amberjack, and larger reef species.
The slow-pitch parabolic action is what defines the Micro Jigger SPJ blank. On each pump the rod loads into a full parabolic curve; on the fall it springs back, driving the jig into the irregular side-to-side flutter that triggers reluctant reef species. This action is not a byproduct of the build — it is the primary design objective. At 6’7" in two pieces closing to 101cm, it stays travel-ready and consistent with the other Micro Jigger variants for unified rod tube storage.
Available with both spinning and overhead reel seat configurations. Pairs with a 3000–5000 size spinning reel or equivalent overhead loaded with PE 1.5–3.0 braid. Also available in the lighter PE 0.5–1.4 and PE 0.8–2.0 variants — see our other Micro Jigger SPJ listings.

Which Micro Jigger SPJ variant should I choose?
The three Micro Jigger SPJ variants cover different jig weight classes — match the rod to your target jig weight range:
- PE 0.5–1.4 (5–22g): Ultra-light micro-jigging with tiny knife jigs. Finesse reef species in shallow to mid depths. Reel 1000–3000.
- PE 0.8–2.0 (20–60g): Light SPJ with small to medium jigs and slow-fall lures. Versatile across a wide depth range. Reel 2000–4000.
- PE 1.5–3.0 (40–100g) — this rod: Medium SPJ with heavy flutter jigs and octo-jigs. Kingfish, snapper, amberjack, and larger reef species at 50–200m. Reel 3000–5000.
If you are unsure, the PE 0.8–2.0 is the most versatile — its 20–60g range covers the most common jigging situations. Choose the PE 1.5–3.0 when you specifically need jigs above 60g.
What is Slow-Pitch Jigging (SPJ)?
Slow-pitch jigging uses a rod’s parabolic action to generate an irregular, fluttering jig action on the fall — mimicking an injured or dying baitfish. The rod loads on the pump and springs back, giving the jig a side-to-side flutter as it sinks. This falling action is what triggers strikes from reef species that ignore a standard speed-jig retrieve.
The Micro Jigger SPJ blank is specifically tuned for this — the parabolic curve on the pump and fast recovery on release are built into the rod, not just a fortunate side effect. For best results, use asymmetric flutter jigs or octo-jigs designed for slow-pitch technique rather than standard knife jigs.
Spinning vs overhead — which reel seat should I choose?
Both configurations use the same blank and deliver identical slow-pitch performance. The choice is personal preference and technique:
- Spinning reel seat: More forgiving for beginners to SPJ. Easier line management in strong current. Better for vertical jigging with light touch on the drop.
- Overhead reel seat: Preferred by experienced SPJ anglers. Better feel and direct contact with the jig. More efficient for deeper work (100m+) where line capacity matters.
Select your preference in the variant dropdown at the top of the page before adding to cart.
What line and leader should I use?
- Mainline: PE 1.5–3.0 braid — 8-strand preferred for slow-pitch technique as the round profile reduces drag in the water column
- Leader: 40–80lb fluorocarbon, 1.5–3m — heavier for reef and structure fishing, lighter for open water
- Connection: PR knot or FG knot for mainline-to-leader. Loop connection for jigs to allow full flutter action on the drop
