About This Rod
The Hamachi XOS GT’n’Doggie™ Expedition Slow-Pitch / Fast-Punch Jig is the dedicated slow-pitch jigging rod in the XOS flagship Expedition series at a compact 6’0" length. Available in three PE ratings covering the full slow-pitch spectrum from light snapper work to heavy dogtooth and bluefin applications.
Slow-pitch jigging works by using the rod’s parabolic action as the primary jig driver: each pump loads the blank, and the spring-back on the fall delivers an irregular flutter that triggers strikes from reluctant reef and pelagic fish. The fast-punch technique (high-speed upstroke followed by a controlled fall) is equally at home on this blank. Both techniques are more effective with a rod blank specifically tuned for the load-spring-fall cycle — which is exactly what the Expedition Slow-Pitch delivers.
The butt-joint construction keeps the active blank as one piece. Available with both spinning and overhead reel seats. Target species span the full reef and bottom calendar: amberjack, snapper, cubera, grouper, hapuku, dogtooth tuna, cobia, giant trevally, yellowfin and bluefin tuna, kingfish, coral trout, red emperor and nannygai. RRP comparable to Expedition Speed Jig.

More Information
Expedition Slow Pitch vs Micro Jigger SPJ — what’s the difference?
The Micro Jigger SPJ is a 6’7" 2-piece rod from Hamachi’s standard range, covering PE 0.5–3.0 in three lightweight variants for micro to medium slow-pitch jigging. The Expedition Slow-Pitch is from the XOS GT’n’Doggie flagship Expedition series — a 6’0" butt-joint rod with a higher-specification blank, covering PE 1–3 through PE 3–8. The Expedition is the step up: more power, heavier jig ratings, and the blank quality associated with the Expedition flagship line.
Slow-Pitch vs Speed Jigging — which rod do I need?
Speed jigging uses a fast, rhythmic cranking retrieve on the way up — it triggers reaction strikes from fast-moving pelagics like yellowfin tuna, dogtooth and amberjack. The rod needs to handle high repetitive load. Slow-pitch jigging relies on a slow pump-and-fall, with the jig flutter on the descent doing the work — triggering slow-moving reef and bottom species. The two techniques require different blank actions; choose the Expedition Speed Jig for fast cranking, and the Expedition Slow-Pitch for the flutter-fall method.
Can I use the PE 1-3 variant for light inshore work from shore?
The Expedition Slow-Pitch is a butt-joint boat rod — it is not optimised for shore casting. For a versatile light-to-medium rod that handles both boat jigging and shore fishing, the Nano Stalker S series rods are better choices.
What jig types work best on this rod?
Asymmetric slow-pitch jigs (e.g., Yatzo, Shimano Butterfly, Halcyon System, Major Craft Jigpara), flutter jigs, and octo-jigs all perform well. The PE 1–3 variant suits jigs in the 80–150g range; PE 2–4 handles 100–200g; PE 3–8 works best with 150–300g jigs in deeper water.
